Katie Reillys Golf Society Presidents Day

Puntúa la entrada

Friday 18th June saw 21 members and guests from Katie Reillys Golf Society head for Las Ramblas on a beautifully warm morning to compete for the Presidents Trophy. There should have been 22 of us but for some reason known only to himself, Society President Peter Deaves had deemed it necessary to attempt to cut his right index finger off the previous day with a Stanley knife and, as the wound required 11 stitches, he was unable to play.

A rather timid excuse many felt whilst others thought he should have played on with one good hand – he has frequently remarked that he could beat the rest of us single-handed so now was his chance to prove it – but he declined.

The course itself was in superb condition with wonderful fairways and greens which ran fast and true but Las Ramblas being Las Ramblas it was still a severe test of golf.

The competition was Singles Bogey and with the Handicap Secretary keeping the scores very much to himself until the last minute, no one was sure of the result until we had all returned to the Great Banqueting Hall at Katie Reillys in cc Rioja where a very fine and fiery curry – courtesy of Carmel – awaited us.

And so it was to the prizegiving, where the winner was declared as being our sole Spanish player – Genarro Sanchez – with a quite amazing score of 4 up, meaning that his handicap has already been adjusted by 1.6. Second place went to Las Ramblas resident Rob Neill while the guest prize went to Steve Ansell – both of whom were 1 up. Prizes for the event were supplied by Miron of Indigo Restaurant and Karl from Great Golf Company and thanks go to both for their support.

Full results –

The next Society meeting will be Friday 16th July at La Serena, with an initial tee off time of 10.30 while we have already booked Las Colinas on Friday August 23rd for the Society´s premier Singles Tournament – The Chloe Cup. As always, anyone wanting to play in either of these events is asked to contact the Captain Graeme Clark via email at challenclark@aol.com or call into the bar to see Jim Hough.
