The PSOE denounces the bad state of most parks and gardens in the Orihuela Costa area

The socialist councillor Rosa Martínez, in a press conference, denounced the state of the majority of parks and gardens in the Orihuela Costa area. The councillor was accompanied by the President of The Association of Neighbours ‘Playas de Orihuela’. Martínez, with photographic evidence, maintained that in many cases the parks are dangerous to the health and physical wellbeing of users.

Broken swings, areas full of waste, large areas covered with weeds, waste paper bin supports without bins, and areas for children covered with broken glass. This was the view of the parks and gardens in the urbanisations of the coastal region of Orihuela two weeks ago and today they remain in the same state. The photographs presented at the press conference were taken two weeks ago by the President of the Association of Neighbours ‘Playas de Orihuela’ and clearly demonstrate the disregard and neglect of all parks in the coastal area.

The PSOE Councillor Rosa Martínez, recalled that a year ago she presented a written denuncia on this same subject to the Councillor delegated to deal with coastal matters, José Antonio Aniorte and that his response was: “we will deal with it shortly”.

The PSOE Councillor described the state of each coastal park and garden, at the same time noting that in the latest budget more than 800.000 euros were designated for green zones, “but in many cases the work is half done and then abandoned”.

After stressing that there are play areas full of glass and asking if the members of the council team would take their children to recreation areas in this state. The councillor stated that since at least 2007 the company: “Orihuela Costa Servicios Inmobiliarios’, had been collecting a fee for the maintenance of the parks and gardens of Orihuela Costa.   

Rosa Martínez concluded by accusing the PP Municipal Council of occultism, and according to the Councillor of repeatedly refusing to submit for scrutiny to the socialist group the company’s bills even though the spokesperson for the group had made the request in writing.
