Beach cleaning exercise held in Orihuela Costa

The exercise commenced in the afternoon of the 20th October 2009, when the tanker, BW Hawfrost, discharged some popcorn into the sea. This material was detected by a patrol boat of the Policia Local as it was floating towards the beaches. This "contamination" reached Cala Estaca, Playa Flamenca on the 21st October. The plan to protect and clean the beaches commenced shortly afterwards. This was treated as being a live emergency.
